Stuff we Added to Spotify: 01/09/09
Hello All,
Welcome to this week’s edition of Stuff we added to Spotify.
We are going to be trying our best to make this a weekly feature and hopefully by the time we have done new stuff and gone back through our playlists Spotify will have sorted out a bit more classic rock.
Just a heads up, the Spotify iPhone App is due out soonish (within a week?) so keep an eye on the App Store, it’s gonna be awesome!
Here we go with the post!

Elizabeth and the Catapult: So you enjoyed last weeks add of mellow blues-ey rock ballad Florence + the Machine? Wanted something similar minus that slightly whiny edge? Go with these guys. I really enjoyed the few tracks that they have on Spotify and while they do share a bit in style with the Machine (I’m shortening the name to make it cooler) they are also fairly unique.
Again this is not workout music or something to psych yourself up to a night out with but it is fantastic to listen to and it really grows on you, give it at least two listens please.
My favourite track of theirs at the moment is either “Momma’s Boy” or “Devil’s Calling”. They are also very trendy and you can follow them on Twitter @thecatapult
David Bowie – The Best of David Bowie: Bowie is pretty famous but so often people don’t actually know his music. I’m not quite sure why this is. He did lull in the 90′s a little so maybe a lot of younger people know just missed him but either way you need to give Bowie a chance. His music really is unqiue and I like listening ot it in almost any situation. It can be meloncholy but I like that about it and i’m sure a lot of other people do too.
Favourite Bowie Tracks? “Life on Mars” is the winner but “Changes” “Heroes” and “Starman” are all fantastic tunes.
Mily Cyrus – Breakout: Anyone who knows my even vaguely in real life has probably just gone “What the Fuck? 80′s throwback, rock and roll pony tail man has Hannah Montana on his play-list??” Well Yes, Yes I do. Breakout is an awesome pop album, it’s uplifting catchy and shallow as hell but that is what makes loads of pop music great and this album just captures that spirit for me.
Sometime her voice is a little annoying but again i really like the overall feel of the album and the music so I recommend you give it a chance, even if its just one full listen through.
“7 Things” and “Breakout” are ace but non album track “See You Again” is also fantastic.

Leaves’ Eyes – Njord: OK, I’ll admit that this one is a bit of a cheat- I bought this yesterday so I haven’t been listening to it on Spotify, but you can :) For the uninitiated, Leaves’ Eyes is Norwegian metal consisting of a lead female vocal, interspersed with male growls and often has a bit of a Viking theme. I’m still in the real ‘first impressions’ stage of this album, so what I write now may not end up being my final opinion. This album sounds darker and heavier than previous Leaves’ Eyes stuff, especially their first effort, ‘Lovelorn’. The vocal melodies sound pretty as usual but at the moment I feel like the vocal mix is a bit off. Liv’s voice feels a bit drowned in the music and it’s not always easy to make out all the words- ‘My Destiny’ so far being the exception. The cover of ‘Scarborough Fair’ sounds nice enough, Liv’s voice suits it. So far I’m not disappointed and I will certainly be playing it again.
Lunactica – The Edge of Infinity: Swiss metal this time! I’m still a bit undecided about this. It’s a bit…cheesy? I’m not sure if that’s the right word. The songs are very catchy, not that heavy and you’ll be singing some of them for days afterwards after hearing them (‘Who You Are’, ‘The Edge of Infinity’). It’s certainly an enjoyable listen and the good tracks are memorable. The others fade from your mind a bit. All in all, it’s worth a spin and I should probably give it a few more listens myself.
Stuff Jesta (Hasn’t) Added to Spotify Recently… But will do in the future
Nothing to report from me again. but a quick glimpse in to the future reveals some AWESOME news.
November brings “The Circle”, the new Album from Bon Jovi. The single “We weren’t born to follow” is out and about. As usual I’m staying clear of it until the album comes out.
Slightly better news is also in November Avril “Black Star” Lavigne FINALLY brings out a new album too. Very nice!
Early next year, Meat Loaf and Incubus also have albums planned. Meat Loaf has enlisted Brian May for a bit or guitaring.
